About Shelley
I'm Shelley, a Registered Dietitian with over 30 years of unique experience that I hope can help you. The first thing you should know about me is that I'm just like you. Over time, with a busy family life and career, my own health priorities slipped and I started to gain weight. Like many, I have a family tree with beloved faces who struggle with excess weight gain, diabetes, high blood pressure and more. In 1999, my dad was over 600 lbs. and nearly died. Fortunately, weight loss surgery saved his life. He enjoyed 25 more years with us, stable and active at 200 lbs. He encouraged me, and I hope to pay that forward to you. I looked at all of my options, and ultimately also decided on weight loss surgery. That was 2 years and nearly 100 lbs. ago. Your path may not lead to a surgical solution like mine, but hopefully it's a help to have a diet coach who has lived with the same struggles, and can use that experience to help you have the success you deserve.
Approach to care
This is all about you, and how I can best serve you. My goal is to teach you to make daily decisions about foods, beverages and supplements by teaching you tools to assess them for yourself. To empower you, while giving you the support you need. I do this daily in an outpatient community clinic, helping folks who are stuck and frustrated, watching their health decline as weight increases. Much of what I share comes from running my own business over 25 years, teaching cooking classes both in person and online. I helped thousands figure out how to eat day in and day out: families excited to have 'fun with fruits and vegetables' for the first time; professionals looking for efficient menu planning routines, shopping tips, and healthy quick dinner ideas; and elders simply trying to age gracefully while eating well on tight budgets. And now, I share those decades of eating, cooking, and shopping tips with my clients, helping them improve their eating habits, and ultimately, their health.
Your first session with Shelley
Think of our 1st session as a āguided conversationā. My goal is to give you the best guidance to support your unique needs and desires, so I take the time to listen, to hear about the experiences that make you, well, you. You know your own body better than anyone else; you are in charge, and you set our pace. You'll find that I check in with you often, to make sure you are feeling supported and comfortable. Together, we will set realistic mini goals, and adjust when 'life happens'. We'll celebrate our progress, acknowledge our setbacks and lessons learned, and hold each other accountable in a kind and caring way. And we'll do all of this because you truly deserve to have the very best health and vitality that's possible. You have big things to accomplish in this life, and I would love nothing better than to partner with you to get them. Let's get started.
