About Emily

Hi there! I’m Emily! Please get to know me! All of my Nutrition & Dietetic education was completed at Marywood University in Scranton, PA. After completing my graduate degree in Sports Nutrition & Exercise Science, I continued my education with specialized training in Mindfulness-Based Eating Awareness (MB-EAT) via the Mindful Eating Training Institute in Novato, Ca and completed a sports nutrition diploma program through the International Olympic Committee. In my 10+ years of being a Registered Dietitian, I’ve worked in a variety of areas. I was a Clinical Dietitian throughout the first few years of my career, which exposed me to any and all disease states. As my career path moved forward, I became the first Sports Nutrition Specialist at a major health network within PA. Currently, I am an Instructor of Practice at Marywood University (back to my alma mater!) and absolutely love educating future health professionals.

Approach to care

Mindfulness is at the core of my care philosophy. I use MB-EAT techniques to help clients foster a sense presence around eating and nurture a positive relationship with their body. I use a weight-neutral approach and value body positivity/weight-inclusivity within the healthcare system. Weight loss may be a side effect of mindful eating, but is not the sole focus. Specialized eating plans will only be encouraged if they are medically necessary (i.e. carbohydrate-controlled, low sodium, gluten free, high calorie, low calorie, etc). My approach with athletes differs ever so slightly. I still use mindful eating as the core of my philosophy with athletes, however, macronutrient and energy intake are important for training; we work together to find an intentional eating pattern that provides sustainable energy for sports performance.

Your first session with Emily

During our first session together, we focus on getting to know each other to build a relationship. I will ask questions about your history around food and eating. By the end of the first session, we will make at least one goal together for you to work toward before our next meeting. I hope to make our environment feel as safe as possible for you; food can be difficult to talk about! I want us to be comfortable and trust one another.
